Every result on Home And Yard Calc is an estimate for planning and budgeting. Material weights change with moisture, grade and supplier, and real projects lose material to cuts, spills and compaction. Always confirm quantities and prices with your supplier before you order, and round up rather than down.
Structural and safety work
Some calculators cover work that affects safety, such as retaining walls, footings, beams, joists, decks and stairs. Our results do not replace a design by a qualified professional or the requirements of your local building code. Retaining walls taller than about 4 feet (1.2 m), or walls holding back a slope, driveway or building, often need an engineered design and a permit. In the US, call 811 before you dig so underground utility lines can be marked.
