About Home And Yard Calc
Home And Yard Calc is a free set of calculators that work out how much material a home or yard project needs: gravel, stone, soil, mulch, sand, sod, grass seed and more.
Who runs it
I’m a web and SEO professional, and I’ve spent years working on websites in the home improvement space. I kept seeing the same problem: people order too much or too little material because the math is fiddly. Too little means paying for a second delivery. Too much means a pile of gravel you paid for and don’t need.
So I built these calculators. Each one does the math for you, shows the answer in the units suppliers actually sell in, and explains the formula and typical values underneath.
How the calculators are made
I’m not a contractor or an engineer, and I don’t pretend to be. The calculators use standard area and volume formulas and typical material values from suppliers, industry references and university extension guides. Each tool is checked against worked examples before it goes live. Some of the explanatory text is drafted with the help of AI tools, then checked and edited by me. You can read exactly how the numbers work on the How We Calculate page.
What the results are for
Results are estimates for planning and budgeting. Confirm quantities with your supplier before you order. For structural work such as retaining walls, footings and driveways on soft ground, follow your local building code and get professional advice where it’s needed.
How the site is funded
The calculators are free to use. The site is supported by ads, and ads never change the results you see.
